Registration.
The car was bought from the Belgium owner and had a registration from Belgium. This car was registered as an "Austin" from 1968. The chassisnumber was traced back to be of a Morris Minor 4 door saloon, hence the 1098 engine specified on the registration. I started to collect as much documentation as I could and made an appointment for an inspection with the RDW (the Dutch version of the DVLA) to get a Dutch registration. I also made sure brakes, lighting and various other items were working. In Holland you can apply for a "one day registration" in order to be able to drive the car to the registration office. Don't forget to get insurance on the vehicle.

At the registration office.
My son and I drove to the registration office and after a quick check we were sent away with an approval. We had to go to the tax office to declare the car. Because the car is an oldtimer no duties had to be paid but needed official clearance that this was actually the case. They told us that our registration would be in the mailbox within a week. So that was that, at least we thought so. When returned home the phone rang. They told us they didn't trusted it at all so we had to come back for a thorough check by the police department. The approval was withdrawn....

I made another appointment and went to the registration office once more. This time I had to leave the car there and they would call me when they were done. That was a day of an almost complete nervous breakdown. In the afternoon the phone rang and I was told that all was fine. The only thing was that the Belgium registration started with the letter "O" and this meant that the car was an oldtimer and it needed to be checked technically first. I went to the registration office only to hear that the car was not approved of because of the fact that there were no rear reflectors.

I went home with the car. Took off the rear reflectors of a skelter and mounted them to the car. I made another appointment with the registration office. This time I was told that all was well but they advised me not to buy another one of these because it should not ever have passed registration.
- I will follow their advise. I will never ever buy a kitcar again without a Dutch registration -
